Love Letter #65: How to See What You Believe

Yesterday, I talked about walking around with pockets full of confetti and celebrating all the ordinary miracles of living. I can totally see us doing that…walking down the street and showering ourselves and others with confetti simply for being the amazing humans we are.

I also believe we are powerful beyond what most of us are willing to believe and accept.

So, today, I want to share a tiny, powerful book that will help you to see what you want to believe. Feeling is the Secret, by Neville Goddard. It’s an oldie but goodie.

This tiny book speaks to the  power of manifesting what you want in life, and the necessity of feeling as though you already have it…even when you don’t see it yet in your present reality.

Goddard writes, “You are already that which you want to be, and your refusal to believe it is the only reason you do not see it.”

I want to emphasize the word, refusal. This is important.

As long as we are in doubt of our desires, we are refusing to believe it’s possible. Often, when we look at our present circumstances our desired state may see off in a distant galaxy. So, we continue to argue for our limitations by counting all the ways our desire seems impossible.

For example; A client tells me she wants to leave her job…but then she tells me all the reasons she can’t. “It’s impossible. How would I support myself? There’s a lot of people counting on me!”

While these things may seem true in her current reality, that reality won’t change as long as this is where her focus is. As long as her feelings are those of fear, doubt, and the “not having” of what she wants.

We’ve all done this. There’s something you want in life and are convinced you don’t have enough time, or money, or talent, or something. These are all refusals to believe we can have what we want.

Are you following me?

This doesn’t mean we won’t have to take some action towards our desire but, as Goddard points out, “life makes no mistakes and always gives us [man] that which we [man] first give ourselves [himself].”

We give ourselves what we desire by being in the feeling of already having it. This is the secret, which is  not really a secret…but often a challenging concept to wrap our heads around, especially if we’re experiencing difficult circumstances in our lives.

If you’re familiar with Joe Dispenza’s work, this will sound familiar. But what I love about Goddard is the simplicity of the practice in this book.

Feeling is the secret. We have to feel that we have what we want, rather than being in the feeling of wanting what we want. These are very different vibrations.

If you’ve worked with me, you’ve experienced this concept of feeling in our work together.

Suppose you are that client wanting to exit her job…I’d be asking you a bunch of questions regularly to get you to the desired feeling such as;

  • Who will you be when you leave this job?
  • How will you feel?
  • What are you doing?
  • What does your day look and feel like from start to finish?

The idea is to get you into the feeling of having the desired outcome, now. Then, my work as a coach is to help you move through the mind drama of doubt and limitation that life has taught you.

When I talk about clarity, this is it. Parsing through the doubt and getting to the heart and feeling of what really matters – to you – so you can embody that feeling and watch the Universe line up what it needs to deliver the goods.

Goddard puts it this way. “Change your conception of yourself and you will automatically change the world in which you live.”

So, why did I pick up Goddard’s book once again. Because as long as I’m living , there is always more to be, do, and create, and it’s time for a new adventure in my life too.

With love,
