Love Letter #119: When Inspiration Comes Fast & Furious

It’s Sunday afternoon, and I’ve no idea what I’m going to write about today.

I started to write about the beautiful music I sang at the spiritual center this morning. Song is a prayer to me. Then I thought maybe I’ll write about my mother. I saw her today, the day after her 94th birthday.

But then I remembered, I’d been awake since 3:30 AM. The creative muse roused me with a waterfall of ideas for what’s next in my coaching practice.

Yesterday, I mentioned that my Facebook community is changing and I was still allowing this to percolate. This morning, I poured some freshly brewed ideas onto the page including the title of the community, the purpose, an outline, and a plan for a new virtual summer camp that is freaking awesome!

The inspiration was coming fast and furious, but I’ve learned not to try and force myself back to sleep. Instead, I lay there, letting it wash over me. Listening. Feeling. Listening more. Until I had no choice but to get up and write it down; as much as I could capture.

Some of my best ideas come to me in the middle of the night, and I know the only thing to do is ride that wave, otherwise, the tide will be out in the morning.

I wrote until about 5:15 AM. It’s not done yet, but the foundation is solid. I am beyond excited to share it all with you…but you’ll have to wait until Wednesday when I announce it in the community before making it public.

You can always join the Facebook Community and be among the first to know.

Yesterday, I invited you to follow the nudges, the urges to do something that may seem out of the ordinary for you or feel uncomfortable. Listen, I love my sleep. Nevertheless, this wave of inspiration was crashing hard against me and there was no stopping it.

In her book, Big Magic, Elizabeth Gilbert writes:

“So this, I believe, is the central question upon which all creative living hinges: Do you have the courage to bring forth the treasures that are hidden within you?”

We all have treasures hidden within us. Being creative doesn’t mean you have to be a writer or make art. Your life is your creation. Listen to what it wants you to hear.

I don’t think getting up at 3:30 AM to capture this inspired download was courageous. But it definitely felt like a little revolution taking place in my heart and soul. A revolution of wildly imperfect ideas raced across my mind as I worked breathlessly to capture them.

I’m so grateful I took myself on this middle-of-the-night adventure.

What are you being nudged to do?

Imagine what might happen if you stop resisting and follow your inner knowing.

With love,
