I’ve Crossed the Mississippi!

It’s hard to believe I’ve been gone a week already. I’ve crossed the Mississippi and 8 states. I’m writing this week’s blog from South Dakota. I’m at camp with Gracie. She’s snoozing on the grass beneath my feet.

I’ve been thinking about this traveling life. I am enjoying it, although it will be nice when I travel in something more efficient than an SUV but for now it’s working well. And, I’ve had the opportunity to stay with or visit some wonderful friends. I’ve also been thinking I haven’t done any work relative to coaching in a week. My first instinct was to chastise myself. How can I really be a traveling coach if I’m not working? However, the coach in me knows this old pattern and knows better than to do that.

Then it hit me. This is like starting a new job! I am working. I’m working at learning how to do this. I’m working at learning how to do things from the road. I’m working at getting a rhythm of sort to camping, and traveling, and enjoying life while working. So, as I enter week two and I have this camping thing down pretty well, I’ll begin to work in the work. After all, isn’t this what it means to say yes and lean in? It doesn’t mean you get it right from the beginning or that it’s perfect every time. It does mean that it takes practice, and learning, and becoming.

If you’re reading this, I’ve crossed the Mississippi some days ago and I’m somewhere on I90 or maybe an alternate route headed to Rapid City, SD. There, I’ll learn something new, still. I’ll stay at an Airbnb for the first time. I am working. I’m working at creating a new kind of coaching life for myself. And, it’s all OK!

Let’s talk about what you’d like to lean into!
