Love Letter #18: Stressed Out? You’re Not Alone!
I had an experience this morning and I knew I was in a place of anxious attachment. Stressed out!
I found myself in an uncomfortable situation where my mind was racing with unhelpful, negative thoughts. I was feeling overwhelmed and desperate to act urgently to relieve the discomfort. But…was this reaction coming from love or fear? Was it my rational mind or my compassionate heart driving these emotions?
Do you ever react to something and then after the fact wonder why you reacted like that? You didn’t want to react, didn’t intend to react…but you did anyway. When it feels like the situation is out of control and so are you? You’re left feeling badly about the situation and worse about yourself?
Hell yeah! Well, you’re not alone. Please don’t shame yourself for it.
It’s tempting to push discomfort and anxiety aside in the moment by making excuses, blaming others, or taking action, but this doesn’t help us understand what’s really happening within us.
If you want to approach situations with a calm and centered mindset, it’s essential to pay attention to your feelings and recognize when it’s time to pause and breathe. This will engage your parasympathetic nervous system and provide the clarity necessary to shift old patterns.
By doing so, we can better understand a situation and determine the best course of action. Remember, awareness always comes before change, and paying attention to our stress responses is the first step towards creating a healthier future.
Learning to recognize and understand our stress responses is an ongoing process. It takes time, patience, and self-compassion to break old patterns and develop healthier ones. But by doing so, we can improve our overall well-being and live more fulfilling lives.
The key to understanding our stress responses is to approach ourselves with kindness and curiosity. By developing a deeper awareness of ourselves and our patterns, we can create a healthier future and live more fulfilling lives.
