If Your Heart Isn’t In It || Say Yes to You || Coaching Life

Have you ever said this, “OK, I’ll do it, I’ll go, I’ll acquiesce, but…my heart isn’t in it”? If your heart isn’t in it then, why are you? The loss of a relationship or passing of a loved one can take our heart out of things for a while, I know. What I’m talking about is generally, in life, in your work, is your heart in it?

There have been many times in my life when I’ve said yes to doing something, or going somewhere, or taking a job, and my heart wasn’t in it. Each time we say yes to what’s not in our hearts, we are saying NO to ourselves. We are so conditioned to put others first, we put the beauty and magic of following our hearts and being ourselves on the back burner so that others will be comfortable with our choices, or won’t feel bad. We’re often afraid of what other people will think and not fitting in. From the genius of Dr. Seuss, “Why fit in when you were born to stand out?”

Let me ask again. Is your heart in it? Are you in love with your life, with the work you do, with the people you spend time with? I’m hopeful your answer is yes. If not, if your heart were in it, what would that look and feel like? What if you let yourself be pulled towards that? How would life change for you? What if every day when you woke up your heart were in it…fully, freely, lovingly, and compassionately in it?

Imagine living life with your heart in everything you do? Imagine how that feels and how the joy you experience in this way ripples out into the world around you. Imagine, as Marianne Williamson reminds us, “as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.” If your heart isn’t in it then, why are you? Let’s talk about how you can say yes to your yes!
