I Dare You…Jump In!

Jump in! I dare you…jump in to the magic of midlife.

I shared this quote with my Magic Mastermind Group this morning. It was the daily inspiration from marthabeck.com today and I love it!

“A herd of horses moves with a confident matriarch mare, not because they’re dragged, chained and frightened, but because they’re drawn to the quiet power of consciousness when it is not gripped by fear.” ~  WIL 2017

I’ve been playing with the idea of midlife magic for some time now.

For me, midlife began somewhere around my late 40’s or early 50’s and continues indefinitely. You get to decide what it means for you. There’s so much negative emotion and energy around the idea of midlife. We mid-lifers, especially women, are encouraged to lift our faces, change our hair, hide ourselves in ways that diminish our authenticity so that we can wedge ourselves into a youth oriented culture. I say, bullshit! It’s high time we shift the paradigm of aging and there are multitudes of us who can do it. It begins with you and me. I dare you…jump in!

As I was traveling along the Oregon coast, I was struck by the signs telling me that I was in a tsunami zone. Each time I reached a place in the road near sea level, the signs would appear. We can experience hurricanes where I live, and while they can be devastating, we get lots of warning to prepare. Tsunamis come with little if any warning and I wondered about what that would look like. As I did, I got to thinking about how midlife creates the conditions for a tidal wave of change and how we, midlife women, are the tsunami of change shifting the paradigm of age and aging. Are you with me?

You are ready for this!  Midlife is a time of rebirth, of transformation. Many of us shift from mothering to empty nesting, leaving us room for new and exciting experiences. Our reproductive energy is replaced with the energy of change and we’ve the wisdom of a lifetime to guide us. Seriously. Did you know that just 100 years ago, in 1917, the average life expectancy for a woman was 54? Geeze Louise! We do have a lifetime of experience and wisdom within us.

Furthermore, we’re retiring from careers and jobs, but not from life. We’re retiring to something new, something more in our second or perhaps third act in life. We know there’s much, much more for us to do, to be, to experience. In my travels, I had the pleasure of meeting Patsy. She is a woman of 80 years, who I would consider to still be in her midlife. After a long and wonderful career she has found a place to call home in Arizona, is living a life of travel and volunteering, embracing life in a way that truly inspired me.

So, what now? In midlife, we get to birth a wiser, more awake, peaceful, and deeply loving expression of ourselves. First of all, we know ourselves better than we ever have. We have the power of quiet confidence to lead ourselves and inspire others in way’s we’d not imagined before. Besides this, we are wiser about loving ourselves, about listening to our inner wisdom and following the whispers of our heart. Oh, those whispers may seem crazy or illogical. They defy convention. Some scare the s**t out of you. I encourage you to jump in, to follow them. You’re magic…and you know it. Jump in and don’t be afraid to own it.

How will you spend this second or third act of your one amazingly beautiful life? What do you, beloved, wish to give birth to now? What magic is stirring within your soul? No birth happens without some discomfort. This is where I come in. I’m here to help you listen to the whisper, to know you have the courage to be who you truly are, and live the magic of your midlife.

I’m here, exploring and experiencing my own midlife magic. I’d love to help you step into your power to make your  midlife magic. I dare you…jump in!
