When Karma is a Bitch!
OK, I’m going to say straight out, this might come off as a little preachy. This has been on my mind for a while and I hope you’ll stay with me. Let’s talk about when karma is a bitch.
I was reading last night in Ernest Holmes’ book, Living the Science of Mind. It was a chapter about our spiritual broadcast systems. It’s all about what we tune into, what we put out into the world in thoughts and words, and how that all comes back to us. This isn’t new of course. We have all sorts of ways to refer to this – karma, destiny, or perhaps the simple – what you give you get. Have you had those moments when karma is a bitch? Yeah. Me too. Consider your broadcast frequency.
I stay away from news – television, newspapers, etc. It’s not that I live with my head in the sand. I feel this stuff deeply and I closely protect my energy and that’s a frequency I prefer not to receive. I also love Facebook. It’s wonderful to connect and it’s a great place to share my business happenings and my weekly blog. So, I do get a taste for what’s in the news here. And, much of it consist of what Julia Cameron calls, ‘crazymaking”. It sounds something like this…
“If you’re not outraged about XYZ, you should be!”
“If you don’t share this you don’t care about XYZ!”
“You’re stupid if you think…or believe…or whatever”
“S/he’s an idiot because…(pick whatever it is you think is unacceptable)”
“They should XYZ…or they shouldn’t XYZ…”
“They (pick your group) want to do XYZ…share if you think they should be stopped.”
And, my particular favorite, “We’re doomed because…fill in the blank”
We forward, share, and perpetuate outrage, panic, shame, indignation, worry, and fear without a second thought. Are you feeding love or fear? What are you broadcasting?
Here’s what I know.
- We are each an individualization of one universal intelligence. In other words, we are all part of one consciousness. You don’t have to believe me…you’ve met karma.
- Everything we think, say, do creates a ripple effect. Like the stone in the water, it affects more than just me. When we act from a place of anger or fear, that’s what we put into the world.
- Everything in the universe travels in circles. Think about dropping that stone again. As a result, the water doesn’t just ripple away from you, it comes towards you too. What we send out surely comes back to us and, that last ripple is far bigger than the first.
I’m not suggesting that we ignore things that we see and don’t like. I’m not even suggesting that any of these things are wrong or right. I am suggesting we think about a few things before we respond (or react), and pay more attention to what we want more of. To be good to ourselves! A few things you might ask yourself.
- How do I want to feel, and does this bring me that feeling? Life happens from the inside out. Consequently, if I expect to live in peace and joy, I need to be these things in order to receive them.
- Am I broadcasting what I want or what I don’t want? What do I want to receive? Peace, kindness, the benefit of the doubt perhaps? It all matters to raising our own consciousness and ultimately the consciousness of the world. I follow a simple rule here – if I don’t feel at peace with what I am sharing – I interrupt the broadcast and I don’t share.
- Don’t be afraid to be the Pollyanna. I know…this has a negative connotation to it, but ask yourself, is that true? Don’t be afraid to switch the channel, to choose a higher frequency and create a more positive, peaceful, happy life for yourself…you’re the only one who can!
When karma is a bitch, it’s time to raise the vibration. Each of us has the power to choose what we broadcast and receive, and create a more peaceful life and a more peaceful world. What are you broadcasting?
From my heart to yours,
